Public Tabs
Public tabs are those tabs that an Ablemarks user has indicated they want other Web users to be able to view and use, via a separate Public Password, or via a direct link that does not require signing in. This public tab
feature is ideal when creating a set of bookmarks for others to use, or when creating specific public tabs for others to view and use. This might be bookmarks for kids, family, students, peers, employees, alumni, volunteers, etc.
While public tabs can be viewed and used, public users can not make any changes to the tabs, headings or bookmarks, or make any changes to the account. If no Public Password is specified on the Settings page, no public users can access any of the bookmarks or tabs, whether any of them are set as public or not.
Private / Public Tab Setting Each tab has a Public Option setting. Initially all tabs are created with the Public Option not set. This means that if public access to some tabs is desired, the Public Option must be set for each tab that is to be
made public. The Public Option for a tab can be set when editing a tab, or when ordering tabs, via either the 'Edit' or 'Order' links on the Bookmarks page.
Public Tab Indicator When the primary user of an Ablemarks account is viewing their tabs, they can tell if the Public Option is set for a tab, by the superscript 1 located after the tab's name.

Public Password Access If a Public Password on the Settings page is specified, Web users with the Account ID and that Public Password will be able to sign in to Ablemarks to view and use the tabs that have the
Public Option set. Public Password users can not see any of the non-public tabs, nor can they make any changes to the tabs, headings or bookmarks, nor make any changes to the account.
Direct Link URL Access This method requires that a direct link URL be provided to public users so they can click it to view and use the bookmarks on the public tabs. For this method to work, the account's Public Password must be set to
nopassword via the Settings page. The format of the direct link URL (Web Address) to create and give out is . . . http://www.ablemarks.com/my/ams.cgi?id=example
Replace example in the above link with the ID of the Ablemarks account. Direct link public users can not see any of the non-public tabs, nor can they make any changes to the tabs, headings or
bookmarks, nor make any changes to the account. Preventing Public Access Leave the Public Password field blank on the Settings page, if no public access to any tabs is desired.
